The Dos and Don'ts of Style

There is right and wrong when it comes to style. But you're not going to figure it out reading magazines, you're not going to figure it out looking at other people's closets, or reading every fashion blog post. You're only going to figure it out—the rights and wrongs, the do's and don'ts of style—when you can answer the questions: how does this outfit make me feel? And more importantly, how do I want to feel?

Can we all just admit that needing to follow trends is dead? The most stylish people know how they want to feel and know what clothes make them feel that way—and sometimes trends align with it and sometimes they don't.

How do you start tapping in to style?

  • Start with looking at the clothes you have now. How do they make you feel? And how is that different from how you want to feel?
  • Know how you want to feel can change—over time, from day to day, or setting to setting. You might want to feel approachable and darling in one setting, and sophisticated and wise in another. That's okay—it's why we don't have a closet full of 10 of the same shirt.
  • But you should always want to feel confident and empowered. You should never wear something that doesn't make you feel these things.

And maybe for a day when you want to feel both caring and carefree, you reach for a vintage yellow lace sundress and your favourite hat ;)

Shut out all the noise—all the style advice of what you should be wearing and pairing together. And I'm asking you: how do you want to feel?
